Dear Anyone
Had a wonderful visit two weeks ago in Chicago with James and Alisa then on to Washington D.C. with Brent and Brenda. Barely kept up with them. In Chicago we did the picnic thing downtown in Grant Park (Big
Columbus Day parade and many people). You will see a most interesting sculpture of the "bean" reflecting the people around and the buildings surrounding the thing. I really like that Chicago skyline. Chicago Institute of Art has always been an attraction to me since my navy midshipman days at Northwestern University way back so I share with you some of my favorite art works by some of the top people with palette talent. Hope you recognize all of them. Send questions along.
Spent one quiet afternoon at State Park on Lake Michigan. Then to Chicago center and a day at Cantigny which is located on the estate of Robet McCormick when alive was the owner and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. His formal gardens were marvelous, mansion was interesting but highlight fir me of that visit was a museum dedicated to battles and honors won by the U.S. Army First Division - Big Red One. They helped break out of the stalemate of trench warfare in War I when they took over a pivotal small town of Cantitgny in NE France. Hence the name of the museum. Dad Foster Barrus served on the battle front in that very area. The museum featured actual reconstructions of trenches , a section of a jungle of Viet Nam, and etc. Around the museum was a tank "park" with a tank of every model used during War II. Interesting. Chicago temple was beautiful. Well now, I will see if I can add a selection of some of the pictures of these places. Love, dadgdadggdad

Tracy Aviary in Liberty is Really for the Birds and a Camera
Mom and I spent a couple of pleasant hours admiring the birds in the Tracy Aviary. This bird portion was in the original Hogle Zoo when I was living with grandmother Sanders just a block east of Liberty Park on 8th East. The zoo animals were later moved to its present location. Tracy is a marvelous collection of lovely avian friends of every color, size and shape. Take all of your little ones for a fun experience.
Love, dadgdadggdad and momgmomggmom.
I am really trying to tighten down some loose brain cells with all of these computer and camera tactics. Thanks to my tutor Katherine. If you want to see a lovely journal please make a request and will I ask her for permission to send her address. Pictures and her writings will be bound into an annual volume. What a great idea for family record keeping!

Utah State Fair was Fair
Okay. For practice I need to deposit some of the functions more firmly in my memory bank. I hope to send a few pictures of our visit to State Fair last afternoon. Fair seems to also describe the quality. Appears to coming more carnival and commercial than exhibits and animals. County Fairs retain much of the old flavor. Perhaps I am too judgemental. Most interesting was sit on the sidelines and people-watch. I did take shots of a number of "Best in the Category" so you can see how the really creative folks create. As we observed the winners and apparent loosers it was not always readily apparent why one was selected.. I would not be a good judge, I suppose.
I took a number of random pictures. Notice the two elderlies which may possibly have been the oldest exhibit at the Fair. I have always been interested in the sculpturing of the life-size cows on a "date" in an ice cream parlor. The write-up indicated that 700 pounds of butter was required for the creation. They are in a frosty display area.
